Ducati Scrambler, Custom Rumble Awards 2020: Live Streamed

Ducati has announced that the awards ceremony for this year’s Custom Rumble will be hosted online. A panel of notable individuals from media, film, motorcycle racing and the custom community will present and judge the five finalists of the competition.

Ducati Custom Rumble

The Scrambler Custom Rumble has become a staple of Scrambler Ducati’s marketing calendar. Since 2016 it’s worked well in raising the profile of the Borgo Panigale marque’s ever-growing and popular Scrambler range. More so, it’s produced a number of remarkable custom builds.

Unsurprisingly, bike builders from across the globe including shed/backyard bike tinkerers and professional customisers compete annually for the top prize.

The latest competition was much the same. And when registrations closed in December 2019, seventy-four entries by wrenchers from around the world had been submitted.

Each bike was entered into one of five categories, based on build style:

  • Rocker –  Café racers inspired by the sixties sub-culture of the same name
  • Cut-down – Stripped-down bobber-style motorcycles
  • All-Terrain – Enduro-style scrambler motorcycles with off-road aspirations
  • Outsider – Freestyle, undefined custom bike styles
  • Bully – All custom styles, but specifically based on the Ducati Scrambler 1100 platform

After public voting ended in March, entries were whittled down to the five finalists with the most votes – one for each category.

Originally, the award ceremony was set to take place at The Bike Shed Show, on 23rd May at London’s Tobacco Dock.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic has sensibly seen the show cancelled this year.

That’s of course an immense disappointment for all. Not to mention the possible financial implications for staff who work at Tobacco Dock and BSMC.

In its stead, the awards ceremony will now take place virtually, presented by Scrambler Ducati Ambassador, Dominika Grnova.

Ostensibly, she’ll be in good company, flanked by a judging panel of five.

From the world of motorcycle racing, official riders for the Aruba.it Ducati team and MotoGP Ducati team, respectively Chaz Davies and Andrea Dovizioso.

Anthony ‘Dutchvan Someren (founder and CEO of BSMC) will represent The Bike Shed.

Representing professional bike builders is, eminent wrencher Filippo Barbacane from Officine Rossopuro.

And finally, the actor and Ducatista member Nicholas Hoult will join the other judges on the virtual panel during the live broadcast.

Coveted Prize

Naturally, aside from kudos, there’s a significant prize. Impressively, the overall winner will receive a Beta workbench and a complete set of tools.

As such, there must be an intense sense of anticipation for the five finalists. And inherently, a keen desire to win the coveted top spot.

Save the date – the Custom Rumble awards will be streamed live on the official Scrambler Ducati Facebook page on Monday 25 May, at 17:00 CEST.
